At our recent underage end of season presentation we were delighted to have in attendance
special guest Finn Harps Gavin McAteer to present the awards.
At just 17 years old Gavin was presenting awards to players not much younger than himself and
will be a source of inspiration to our young players.
Gavin started o in underage football with Milford United.
From U9’s he also joined the Finn Harps Academy before playing solely for Harps from U13’s
onwards.
He has progressed through the underage League of Ireland Harps teams over the last few years.
In 2024 Gavin got in and around the Harps senior team making 3 starts and a number of
appearances from the bench but 2025 has proved a break out year for him, starting 22 games,
scoring his first senior goal against Wexford F.C. recently and capped o by being named young
player of the year.
Teams across the water have been taking an interest and Gavin has been over to train at
Nottingham Forest in England and also to Scottish giants Celtic..
Furthermore his performances have been recognised at international level and after being
regularly called up to the Ireland U17 squad throughout the season he got the fantastic news
that he made the squad for the World Cup in Qatar. Gavin will meet up with the squad in Dublin
on Wednesday before departing for Qatar on Friday.
We at Dunfanaghy Youths congratulate Gavin on this amazing achievement and wish him the
best of luck at the World Cup, to further progress at Finn Park next year and his future career
wherever it may take him.
